What Is The Best Circular Saw

Anyone who has spent time building probably has their favourite circular saw. The circular saw is used so often that it can start to feel like an extension of the arm. A great circular saw can make a job go much easier and the work neater. We all have our own particular favourite circular saw but this will try and find out what is the best circular saw.

First up we are going to have a look at the Makita 5007MG Magnesium 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw. I chose this to feature first for two reasons, firstly because it is my personal favourite. I have had used a Makita for years and I love it. I have always found Makita’s tools to be reasonably priced and highly reliable. I also got prime place because I’m not alone in thinking this is one great circular saw. This is the best selling circular saw on Amazon and it has a rating of four and half stars. Check out the reviews and you will see what I mean. People who use the Makita can’t stop raving about, and I’m one of the converted.

So you might ask why the Makita is so much better than the other saws out there. For me the major selling point is how comfortable it is to use. The Makita 5007MG is really light and the grip has been ergonomically light. This may not seem like it is too important. But as anyone knows who uses a saw all day long, it makes a big difference. All saws are noisy and the Makita isn’t any exception. However compared to other circular saws it’s practically the prius of the power tool world. Other things I like about the Makita Magnesium Circular Saw is its nice start up and it cuts clean. The Makita is yet to let me done in producing neat work. As I noted at the start of the hub, I have had my Makita for years. And other than cutting the lead which I can hardly blame Makita it has needed a single repair. Over that period I was working as a carpenter and so this saw was getting a solid 8 hours a day of action. If that isn’t a testimonial too how tough this saw is I don’t know what is.

A strong contender for the crown of best circular saw has to be the Milwaukee 6394-21 15 Amp 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw. Again this is a very highly rated circular saw at 4 and half stars. And although as I previously mentioned I’m in the Makita camp this is also a very well made circular saw. It has some great features that the Makita doesn’t have including a power assisted electric brake stop which stops the blade in seconds. It also comes with a tilt lock. Which lets you adjust the saw for the most comfortable position when cutting? Probably the thing you hear most about with the Milwaukee 6394 is that it really powerful, it comes with a 3.0 HP 15 amp motor which certainly gets the job done.

As with all circular saws you want a saw that is comfortable to use all day long and the Milwaukee doesn’t let itself down here either. It is light like the Makita and the handle position can be adjusted into the most ergonomic position. Also both the front and rear handles are cushioned, which is nice even for us that have hands like old leather.

I thought I should throw in one for the lefties. So here is my selection for the best left sided circular saw. It is the Bosch CS5 120-Volt 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw. This is a great selection for those people who need a professional level circular saw at an entry level price. Both the cutting depth and the cutting angle are a cinch to set up. It comes with a 15 amp motor although Milwaukee claims to have the most powerful saw in this weight range. Bosch hasn’t thrown in any unnecessary features but has stripped the saw done to its key points. It cuts clean, is low maintenance and gets the job done. If you need a left sided circular saw then the Bosch comes highly recommended.

So there you have it. Three fantastic circular saws. All of which are highly rated and very competitively priced. In my opinion there is no real reason to stray away from these three core offerings. There are a few slightly cheaper saws on the market but the difference in price is not significant. And what you get with these saws is reliability and the knowledge that they can get the job done.
